Rare Gathering of Relics during America’s 250th

24

As we celebrate America’s 250th birthday, we have a rare opportunity to venerate the relics of American Saints and Blesseds whose lives helped shape the Catholic faith in our nation.

Relics of Saint Frances Xavier Cabrini, St. John Neumann, St. Kateri Tekakwitha, Blessed Stanley Rother, Blessed Michael J. McGivney, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, Blessed Francis Xavier Seelos, and St. Katharine Drexel are a few people who lived, served, and gave witness to Christ in the United States.  Their relics are on display together with nearly 500 other relics in the Marian Chapel.

Pray for our country, honor the holy men and women who remind us that we are “one nation under God,” and experience this rare opportunity to encounter and pray with the relics of some of the great American Saints and Blesseds at the Diocese of Biloxi’s Marian Chapel.

The Diocese of Biloxi is privileged to have been gifted with over 1,700 relics, many of which are on display in the Marian Chapel north of (behind) the Cathedral of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Biloxi.

At present, viewing hours are 45 minutes after the 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. Sunday Masses, during the 6:30 a.m. and 8 a.m. daily Masses Monday through Friday and the 8 a.m. Mass Saturday morning. Also, on Fridays the Marian Chapel is now open from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. for viewing of the saints’ relics. (Refer to www.NativityBVMCathedral.org for updated viewing hours.)

For more information about times the display is open to the public, or to arrange tours, contact Colleen Kavanagh at colleenkavanagh64@gmail.com or call the Nativity BVM Cathedral’s office at 228-374-1717.

SAVE THE DATE:  On November 1, 2026 (All Saints’ Day) we will have a special Mass welcoming approximately 260 Saints’ relics from J through Z at the 11:00 a.m. Mass at the Cathedral of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary with Bishop Kihneman presiding. The new group of relics will be switched out in the Marian Chapel.  There are 8 display cabinets in the chapel, 4 have relics which will remain permanently.  For the past year, the other 4 cabinets housed relics of saints alphabetically from A through J.  We will switch them out with relics of saints from J through Z for the next year.
