St. Patrick Students Give Back at Mercy Cross
Spending a day serving at our local Mercy Cross Day Center was an experience these St. Patrick students will never forget. During their time there, they helped prepare meals, served those in need, and had the chance to connect with individuals from the community. Beyond the tasks, they experienced the power of giving, the joy of serving others, and the ways that faith can guide acts of kindness. The students shared their experiences, highlighting the meaningful moments, eye-opening encounters, and lasting impressions this day of service left on their hearts:
“My experience at Mercy Cross is something I will never forget. I was privileged to go volunteer at Mercy Cross on Tuesday November 11. During my time at Mercy Cross we did many things to help the less fortunate. It was so amazing getting to help these people. It really opened my eyes that it is so important to do these things through God. I am extremely thankful I got to be a part of such a meaningful and powerful service.” – Annalie 9th grade
“I was one of the five students who got to go to volunteer at Mercy Cross on Tuesday Nov 11. While we were there we made plates of food for the homeless. Once we made the food we served it, and saw a lot of smiles. Then we started making lunches and dinners for the homeless. After that a few friends and I went to talk to those we served. This was an extraordinary field trip, and an amazing way to spend my day! I recommend everyone try it at least once!” – Riggs 9th grade
“My experience at Mercy Cross was unforgettable. I was one of the five people who got to go help people who are less fortunate. I loved all of the people there and they all had many diverse stories. One of my experiences there is that this man told me that he was so thankful for all of us who came out to help. He explained to me that his parents passed away and lost all hope. I explained to him that everything that happens, God intended for it to happen. This opened my eyes to see the better in situations and that everyone is different. The nuns were so welcoming and very calming to speak to. I am very grateful I got to experience and witness this with my own eyes. If I have another chance to go visit them again, I would do it in a heartbeat.” – Tenley 9th grade
“My time spent helping at Mercy Cross helping others is something unforgettable. To be able to help those with less was empowering and I am very grateful for our time we spent there. Getting to meet the sisters and people who run the facility and hear about why they do this and everything they put into serving their community was very empowering. The stories of the people we met and how much it meant to them that we were there to serve them was so extraordinary. The feeling of serving others is something I will never forget, and I hope to do more of. If you have never felt this way it is one that is life changing. If you have the time to help out it means so much to everyone involved with it and is something that will stay with you for the rest of your life.” – Anna Grace 9th grade
