A Life Experience at the Beatification of Archbishop Fulton Sheen
Deacon Gill Diaz and Olga Rivera attended to the Beatification of Archbishop Fulton Sheen on September 24, 2026
When we heard the news, just a couple of weeks ago, that Archbishop Fulton Sheen had begun his first step toward canonization, we never imagined that we would have the opportunity to experience something so special.
The excitement continued when my wife and I (Deacon Gil Diaz and Olga Rivera) registered and received the notification that our seats had been reserved. Finally, the day of the celebration arrived, and everything became a reality.
Being surrounded by nearly 60,000 people was an emotion that can only be experienced from the heart. The celebration also brought together 89 bishops and cardinals, nearly 1,000 priests, almost 250 deacons, and approximately 850 seminarians, acolytes, and altar servers. Seeing the whole Church gathered together to celebrate our faith and honor a man whose witness invites us to seek holiness was truly moving.
Having the opportunity to participate in the first beatification celebrated on American soil was a unique experience that we could not let pass us by.
We are deeply grateful to the Lord for allowing us to experience this historic moment in our faith.
Thank You, Lord, because there are still saints among us whose example we can follow. Thank You for reminding us, through their lives, that holiness is still possible in our own time.
Thank You, Lord
