Cathedral parish hosts St. Joseph Altar

On Wednesday, March 19, 2025, the ladies of Nativity Cathedral parish, St. Joseph’s Altar Society, hosted their annual St. Joseph’s Altar celebration and luncheon in honor of the Feast of St. Joseph.
In the week leading up to the event, the ladies of the altar society worked tirelessly to construct a three-tiered altar aimed at honoring St. Joseph and loved ones that have gone before us. Pasta noodles, sweet treats and of course, fava beans adorned the altar.
The Very Reverend Father Godfrey Andoh blessed the altar early Wednesday morning prior to the guests arrival. From 10 AM to 2 PM, the altar was open to the public for viewing and guests had the opportunity to leave prayer intentions. At 11:45, Father Godfrey, Father Martin Gillespie with St. Mary’s, Woolmarket, and the Most Reverend Bishop Louis Kihneman, III, gave a special prayer and blessing to celebrate St. Joseph with a reading from the Gospel of Luke.
Following the blessing, guests were invited to join the annual spaghetti luncheon. Over 150 attendees broke bread together, enjoying homemade spaghetti and desserts. An addition to this year’s celebration was the raffling of specialty baskets full of donated items from altar society members, as well as parents of students at Nativity BVM School.
Through donations and raffle basket tickets, the St. Joseph Altar Society was able to make a donation to the St. Vincent de Paul Society at Nativity. Additionally, a donation was made to Nativity School to help provide snacks for students during the upcoming state testing period as a way to thank the parents for their overwhelming support. The St. Joseph’s Altar Society would like to thank everyone for their continued support for this wonderful event and they are already looking forward to next year.
