Encouraging Vocations: Sacred Heart Hattiesburg Catholic School’s New Tradition
Sacred Heart Catholic School Launches Traveling Vocational Crucifix Initiative
As the school year kicks off, Sacred Heart Catholic School’s Vocations Committee is introducing a meaningful new tradition. Each week, a teacher from both the elementary and high school campuses will be entrusted with the Vocational Crucifix, a symbol designed to serve as a reminder of the importance of praying for vocations. This initiative encourages the entire school community to reflect on and pray for various vocations, whether they be to marriage, priesthood, or religious life.
This effort comes at a crucial time, with the current shortage of priests affecting Catholic churches, including those in the Hattiesburg area. Priests play an essential role in allowing parishioners to attend Mass and receive the sacraments. By incorporating this practice into weekly routines, Sacred Heart hopes to foster an environment where students are encouraged to be open to the vocation God may be calling them to. Teachers are encouraged to join in this prayerful endeavor with their students, strengthening the community’s dedication to nurturing future vocations.
