Our Lady of Victories Catholic Church welcomes Ukraine Bishop Vitaliy Kryvytskyi
PASCAGOULA, Miss. (WLOX)- Our Lady of Victories Catholic Church in Pascagoula welcomed a special guest during Tuesday’s Mass.
Ukrainian Bishop Vitaliy Kryvytskyi, Diocese of Kyiv-Zhytomyr visited the Gulf Coast to raise awareness of the ongoing war in Ukraine.
Uplifting a broken country with prayer, Bishop Louis Kihneman, Diocese of Biloxi, invited Kryvytski after learning of his country’s tragedy two years ago.
“Even though the world is forgetting everything that is actually happening, I wanted to remind everybody the war is still going on and we continue to need your support,” Bishop Kryvytskyi said.
The two met six years ago in Rome at the Master of Spirituality Conference.
Bishop Louis extended an armor of support to Ukraine.
“These dangers are every day. That is why we ask the international community to help us protect these people so they won’t die,” Kryvytskyi said.
In his message, Vitaliy shared Kyiv is in need of lights, water, and food.
“They lost everything. They desperately needed our help. It’s a joy to have him here to celebrate our friendship but also for the people in Ukraine and the people in his diocese,” Bishop Kihneman said.
Bishop Kihneman also shared the church provided the people of Ukraine with monetary aid to assist in feeding families.
“Our prayers are to join with their prayers for peace and let there be a just peace that happens,” Kihneman said.
“Thank you, and may the Lord bless America,” Kryvytskyi said.
Bishop Vitaliy travels to Florida next to meet with other religious and community leaders.
