The Music and Fine Arts Ministry of the Nativity of the Blessed
Virgin Mary Cathedral, under the direction of Terry Maddox, offered a special liturgical concert service, Advent Lessons and Reflections, on Saturday afternoon, December 2nd.

Fashioned after the traditional Christmas Lessons and Carols, this inspirational program highlighted Old and New Testament scripture (readings by Jennifer Gentile and Chris Kennedy) pertinent to the Advent season of prophecy and preparation. Readings were punctuated by vocal and instrumental solo and choir performances of Advent hymns and songs originating from Medieval through more contemporary times, including selections from Handel’s Messiah. Mr. Chris Nemec, Music Director of Government Street Presbyterian Church of Mobile, provided the organ accompaniment for the 40-person combined community choirs of Gloria in Excelsis and Mobile Vocal Arts.
