DESCRIPTION:On Saturday\, December 20TH from 5:30-6:45 p.m. – the Music & Fine Arts Ministry of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Cathedral will offer “Caroling on Cathedral Square.”  All are invited to come to the front of the Cathedral and Rectory – located at 870 Howard Avenue and we will join together in singing Christmas Carols and other Christmas music favorites.  The Nativity BVM Cathedral Men’s Club will have hot chocolate\, cookies\, and electric candles to offer the carolers for a donation.  Come – join in this annual holiday tradition at the Cathedral! DESCRIPTION:Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Cathedral will present a special\, liturgical concert-service entitled: “Advent Lessons and Musical Reflections” on Sunday\, December 7th at 4:00 p.m. in the afternoon. Fashioned after the traditional Christmas: “Lessons and Carols”\, this unique scripture and music program illuminates the meaning and depth of the Advent Season of prophecy\, expectation and hope as reflected through images of the prophets and the Angel Gabriel. This year’s special feature is Antonio Vivaldi’s “Gloria” presented with a small chamber orchestra. SUMMARY:All Souls Concert Service
DESCRIPTION:The Music & Fine Arts Ministry of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Cathedral will present its fourth annual “All Souls Concert” on All Souls Day – Sunday – November 2nd at 4 pm. This concert-service event remembers loved ones that have passed and seeks to treasure them and make their memory a blessing to the future generations. This is a musical and spiritual offering that is given to the Cathedral community\, the Greater Gulf Coast Community\, and to the Biloxi Diocese community.The concert-service features music selections of remembrance including “Requiem” by the 20th/21st century composer – Michael John Trotta. While this “Requiem” was commissioned by a consortium of College\, High School and Church Choral programs to feature a twenty-first century treatment of the Requiem genre\, it was written to provide hope\, healing\, and comfort to “all” who have experienced the sting of loss while modernizing the treatment of both the text and the musical setting.The Music & Fine Arts Ministry of the Cathedral invites anyone who would like to submit a remembrance (name/s) to be listed in the program – to share them by Monday\, October 27th at noon to the email contact info site listed below. No donation is required to do this; but donations are tax deductible and graciously accepted. These funds will directly finance the Chamber Orchestra for this program.The program will be shared by the Massed Choral Societies of Gloria in Excelsis of the Cathedral and Mobile\, Alabama’s Mobile Vocal Arts. SUMMARY:“Gloria in Excelsis”
DESCRIPTION:“Gloria in Excelsis” – a community wide Chorale Society open to all\, will begin their Eighth Season on Tuesday\, August 12th at 6:45 p.m. The hour-and-a-half\, weekly rehearsals are held in the Sacred Heart Academy (SHA) Center on the campus of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary (BVM) Cathedral – 870 Howard Avenue in Biloxi. Rehearsals are in the Youth Assembly Hall on the East side of the SHA Center. No membership fee is required. The Chorale presents annually an All-Souls\, an Advent\, a Christmas\, a Holy Week and Patriotic Concert – all at times outside of the normal Sunday morning worship frame.
